Reverse commute back to
the city where I reside
on a Saturday night
Women in milk white
blouses, men in checkered
shirts check smartphone
screens to confirm
reservations
College boys and girls
with duffle seat companions
sink low to the drone of
earbuds
Once expelled from the
train into Saturday night:
Taxicabs scoot fast,
screech slow and toot
a horn that asks a question –
I shake my head no
Night shrinks buildings
so stories-high flats
and restaurants float
in an indigo sky
A click-click-click
staccato warns pedestrians
that I too am en route
and please step aside
I have traveled some
miles tonight
